Reverse osmosis is considered one of the very best method for purifying water. Reverse osmosis water purification is a water treatment process whereby virtually all particles, contaminants, and even dissolved material, such as sodium, chloride, fluoride, calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, and many others, may be separated from water. The reverse osmosis process forces the water through an ultra-fine semi-permeable membrane under high pressure. The water diffuses through the membrane and the dissolved salts remain behind on the surface of the membrane. Water that makes it through the membrane is considered completely pure, while water that does not make it through, is sent through a drainage tube and is rendered impure. As you can see, reverse osmosis generates a large quantity of "waste" water which is sent down the drain.

Reverse osmosis is one of the best water purification methods; however, it is also one of the slowest. Because reverse osmosis has a slow water purification rate, reverse osmosis systems generally include a pure water reservoir storage tank so that desired quantities of pure water can be ready on demand.
